Horse racing tips: Tuesday April 8 – Southwell

There are four meetings in Britain and Ireland today. The action starts on the Flat at Pontefract (2.02-5.12pm) and Navan (2.10-5.20pm), with jumps following at Carlisle (2.20-5.35pm) before the schedule concludes on the all-weather track at Southwell (5.27-8.30).

5.27, Southwell – Class 6 Handicap (1m 4f) 

Five-year-old gelding ANA EMARAATY will be aiming for a third successive win when he runs in this opener, having twice tasted success at Newcastle last month. 

He has mainly been run on the Tyneside track, where he has enjoyed all four of his career victories, with the first two coming last year. Jim Goldie’s charge now runs on another all-weather track against familiar opposition. 

Ana Emaraaty beat second favourite Rubellite by 1¾ lengths in his previous outing. He has been given a 4lb rise for this one, which may be underestimating this progressive type.
